I think we can all agree that high school is not always the easiest time in a teenager’s life.
Looming exams, new-found hormones and TikTok trends can really complicate the relationships we have in our lives, whether it’s between friends, partners, family members, teachers, co-workers or anyone else.
Well, we at Healthy Youth Network thought so too, and we want to highlight what healthy relationships look like, how to find the “green flags” in them, and how to empower ourselves and those around us to “live their best lives.” To that end, our student ally team is hosting two breakfasts for Waterdown District High School (WDHS) students in May — an EmpowHER breakfast for female/non-binary identifying students and an EmpowerMENt breakfast for male/non-binary students.
Lisa Ward, a former WDHS student from the Flourishing Space will be our guest speaker for the EmpowHER breakfast, while Halton Women’s Place will provide additional expertise through a video message. The events are a way for us to come together after years of interacting through a computer screen and identify green flags in current relationships — or those to come.
Plus, it’s free food.
We’d like to thank Waterdown District High School: the principal, administration, staff and students, who have been an immense source of support and encouragement. We are thankful for their dedication and help in organizing these events, which we hope will continue for years to come.
Healthy relationships shape how we see and treat ourselves and others. Teens need a little help and guidance, and through these breakfasts we hope to empower our students to “live their healthiest lives.”
Our Flamborough Paint Challenge is coming up on June 29, and we encourage our community to register as this is also a fun and interactive day to build healthy relationships, and support our programs!
