When I was in high school — five years ago — there were still so many things I didn’t know, about different career options, healthy relationships and life in general.
By university I realized it would have been helpful to know about such things as how to network and mental health. Now, I am part of Healthy Youth Network’s Youth Impact Team, helping to create this one-stop shop for high school students to know what I didn’t know then.
These past few months, Healthy Youth Network has been working on adding the Youth Portal to our main website, and it is officially live now! This portal features a number of categories covering everything a teen needs to know for their school life, work life, social life, and private life.
Each page provides education, information, and resources for if they want to dig further or need to connect to someone.
Categories such as Education and Programs/Activities will help students get through high school and look into future education. Future-Ready and Life Skills will prep youth for the workforce, providing tips on developing soft and hard skills.
Health and Well-being and Equity and Diversity will provide youth with resources on taking care of themselves and each other and empower them to join current discussions around social justice.
You can also learn more about the Youth Impact Team on the site. We’re a youth-led group, following the “train the trainer” model.
As our team grows, we’ll be running events and workshops for students that will provide them with leadership skills, empower them to drive change, and get involved in their communities.
Every student, regardless of their future plans, their interests and passions, will benefit from this site.
Check it out at youth.healthyouthnetwork.ca. Stay tuned for the Parent Portal, which will follow the same format, but include information on positive parenting and resources for parents to guide and support their youth.
